Ask your contractor:
Air Conditioning
/ Central Air
Central
air conditioners are made up of two separate components: the condenser unit,
located outside the house on a concrete slab, and the evaporator coil above
the furnace
Most central air conditioners are connected to a home's furnace. Thus, the
same motor, blower, and ductwork used for heating your home are used to
distribute cool air from the air conditioning unit. When a central air
conditioner is operating, hot air inside the house flows to the furnace
through the return-air duct. The hot air is moved by the blower across the
cooled evaporator coil in the furnace and is then delivered through ducts
to cool the house.
